The Chinese Consulate General in New York on Tuesday confirmed that a Chinese national was killed near the northeastern U.S. city of Boston, cautioning Chinese citizens in the United States to raise safety awareness.
The killing occurred "in recent days" in Lexington of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, the Consulate General said in a statement, adding that the Consulate General has asked local authorities to bring the killer to justice as soon as possible.
The Chinese diplomatic office has also reached out to the family of the victim, the statement said.
Local media reported earlier that a Chinese female was found dead last week in her car. Local office of chief medical examiner has determined that her death was a homicide, caused by blunt force trauma.
The woman was reportedly last seen by her husband on the evening of May 28. She missed two appointments on the following day, alarming friends and prompting the search.
Lexington is a small town about 13 miles (21 km) northwest of Boston.
