The death toll from a deadly truck-bus collision in Ethiopia's northern Amhara regional state has climbed to 23, state media reported on Tuesday.
The death toll from a collision between a freight truck and medium-sized public transport buses, carrying dozens of passengers on Monday rose to 23 after seven of the seriously injured succumbed to their injuries, state-run Amhara Mass Media Agency reported.
The traffic accident happened on Monday when a freight truck travelling on the road collided with two transport minibuses and an auto-rickshaw vehicle traveling on the opposite side of the road, said Desalegn Mekuria, Chief Traffic Police Officer if Dembecha locality, West Gojam zone in Amhara regional state.
According to Mekuria, the traffic accident happened as the freight truck and the other vehicles were trying to cross a narrow bridge in close distance to each other.
Noting that police is currently investigating the cause of the deadly traffic accident, Mekuria stressed that majority of such traffic accidents in the area occur due to speeding.
