At least 70 people are feared trapped after a five-storey building collapsed at Mahad, 170 km from India's Mumbai on Monday evening, according to local police.
So far, 17 persons have been rescued and have been admitted to the local district hospital, according to a local police official.
Local administration has commenced rescue operations and three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Pune city are on way to the unfortunate site.
There were 47 flats in the building, according to the local administration.
