The observer missions from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have said they recognize the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan held on Sunday as open, free and legitimate.
Head of the SCO observer mission Sergei Kryuchek said during a briefing in Bishkek that the elections were held on a broad competitive basis in an atmosphere of openness and transparency, with the active participation of civil society representatives and creating favorable conditions for citizens to make an independent and conscious choice.
"The mission recognizes the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan were open, free and legitimate," Kryuchek said.
Head of the CIS observer mission Viktor Guminsky also praised the elections, saying that the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan were held at a high level and in an atmosphere of free expression of will.
"The elections were open, transparent and competitive," he said.
The parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan were held on Sunday. According to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission (CEC), four parties have surpassed the 7 percent threshold to receive seats in the country's parliament - Birimdik (24.5 percent), Mekenim Kyrgyzstan (23.88 percent), Kyrgyzstan Party (8.76 percent) and Butun Kyrgyzstan (7.13 percent).
Official results will be announced after manual counting of all ballots, and the CEC will announce no later than 20 days from the day of voting.
