The latest report by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sends a stark warning on climate change and calls for urgent action to address the challenge.

"It is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land. Widespread and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere have occurred," said the report.

According to the document, climate change is also intensifying the water cycle, bringing more extreme rainfall and associated flooding, as well as more intense droughts in many regions.

"Global warming of 1.5°C and 2°C will be exceeded during the 21st century," the report stated, "unless deep reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions occur in the coming decades."

Titled "Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis," the report was drafted by the IPCC Working Group I and approved on Aug. 6 by 195 members of the IPCC through a virtual approval session held over two weeks starting on July 26.

Here are some key facts on climate change taken from the Headline Statements from the Summary for Policymakers section of the report.
