Top Iranian military commander said Sunday that his country is determined to constantly improve the defense capabilities, Tasnim news agency reported.

The Defense Ministry of Iran has a primary responsibility for the enhancement of defense power and maintaining military preparedness, said Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri.

Iran's defense achievements are remarkable considering Iran's low military budget in comparison with other countries, Baqeri said at a ceremony to inaugurate the mission of new Iranian defense minister.

Iran is located in a very delicate region with sensitive conditions, he said, adding that maintaining security and ensuring development in such circumstances would be impossible without a self-reliant defense power.
