The members of the UN Security Council on Friday reiterated their full and unanimous support for the peace process in Colombia, and underscored the importance of tackling insecurity in the country.
In a press statement, the 15-member council also stressed the importance of ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the 2016 peace agreement.
The council members said they welcomed further progress on the comprehensive implementation of the peace agreement including through significant developments on comprehensive rural reform.
In the statement, the members reiterated that "tackling insecurity remains vital for the consolidation of peace in Colombia."
They pointed out that the approval and implementation of a public policy on dismantling illegal armed groups and criminal organizations would be a significant step toward violence reduction.
They hailed the announcement by the Colombian government of a six-month ceasefire with armed groups and hoped that its realization will contribute to comprehensive peace in the country.
The council members reaffirmed that they are committed to continue working closely with Colombia to support comprehensive implementation of the peace agreement, and strongly supported complementary efforts by the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia.
