The 2024 Lancang-Mekong Basin Fisheries and Aquatic Life Protection Seminar took place in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on March 25. This seminar is part of the 2024 "Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Week" Celebration, which the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs hosted in Wuxi from March 20 to 25 with the theme of "fishery resource protection and green development." The "LMC Week" celebrates the eighth anniversary of the LMC mechanism.

During the seminar, researchers, officials, practitioners, and international students from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries engaged in discussions about the progress, outcomes, and future prospects related to Lancang-Mekong aquatic life protection and fishery cooperation. International students from Lancang-Mekong countries shared insights into their own nation's fishery resources, their experiences in fishery and aquatic life protection during their stay in China, and their perspectives on exchanges, cooperation, and common development within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Simultaneously, the 2024 Lancang-Mekong Basin Fisheries and Aquatic Life Protection Cooperation Achievements Exhibition showcased significant advancements in relevant fields since the 2018 Lancang-Mekong Basin Biological Resources Conservation Forum. Notable highlights included the effectiveness of joint law enforcement actions between China and Laos, scientific investigations of river dolphins in the Lancang-Mekong Basin, and the application of China's "rice-fishery co-cropping" technology in Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries. Additionally, the exhibition featured major freshwater fish species collaboratively developed and bred by China and Laos.
