A total of 133,190 people have been evacuated from Russia's Kursk region to date, Alexei Smirnov, acting governor of the region, said Thursday.

During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation in Russia's border regions, Smirnov said the evacuation area covered eight districts in the region and 152,566 residents.

As of today, 133,190 people have left and 19,376 people stayed behind, he said, adding that "we are continuing to relocate people to safe locations. People are being placed in temporary accommodation centers with their relatives."

Meanwhile, Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the border region of Bryansk, said evacuation drills were held in six border districts of the region.

The Ukrainian armed forces started an offensive in southern Russia's Kursk region on Aug. 6. The Russian Defense Ministry reported Thursday that Ukraine has so far lost over 4,700 military personnel and 68 tanks during fighting in Kursk.
