The event was sponsored by the China International Communications Group (CICG) and organized by its subsidiary institute, the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS). The Global Young Leaders Dialogue is a featured program of ACCWS and this event was the first time for ACCWS to host a youth dialogue event in New Zealand thereby promoting cultural exchange between young people in the two countries.

With a theme of "New Technologies Promote Mutual Learning and Innovation among Civilizations," the event provided a platform for youth from both countries to learn from each other where they exchanged their experience and enhanced the bilateral friendship with the help of new technologies. Some 80 guests on the youth cultural communications field from the New Zealand-China Friendship Society, the Auckland University and the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre attended the Dialogue.

In his speech at the event, former Prime Minister of New Zealand Sir John Key mentioned that New Zealand was the first developed country to recognize China’s full market economy status, and reach the bilateral agreement with China on China’s entry into WTO, as well as start negotiations with China on bilateral free trade agreement. He said he was very glad to see youth are becoming "the investors" of friendship between New Zealand and China as well as among all countries around the world, which will further maintain friendships between peoples of all countries.

Speaking highly of the development of China-New Zealand relations in recent years, attendees believe that there is huge potential for the two countries to deepen cooperation and consolidate friendship. They hope the youth of both countries can seize the opportunity of the digital revolution to enhance communication and enrich cooperation for the bilateral strategic partnership.
