The event was organized by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS), a subsidiary institute of the China International Communications Group (CICG). More than 80 honored guests and youth representatives from The University of Sydney, The University of Melbourne, The University of New South Wales, and The University of Technology Sydney, attended the event.

This event was a part of ACCWS's featured Global Young Leaders Dialogue program. The event focused on the subject of “Global Governance and Youth Engagement” which encouraged the youth of both countries to contribute their intelligence and strength to the issues of global governance and common development while also injecting momentum to the bilateral exchange.

Attendees of the event believed that people-to-people exchange is the foundation of China-Australia relations and that the youth are the future of bilateral ties. The China-Australia relationship presently is on the right track to steady improvement. The positive outlook of bilateral relations will provide a big stage for young people in both countries. They hope the youth of China and Australia can contribute their intelligence and strength to the common development and prosperity for the two countries by consolidating bilateral friendship, enhancing mutual trust and cooperation, as well as promoting people-to-people exchange.

At the event, a joint research project on "Global Governance and Youth Engagement" was launched by Jocelyn Chey, Visiting Professor at The University of Sydney, Colin Mackerras, Professor Emeritus at Griffith University, and Harold Weldon, Director of Weldon China/Australia, as well as young scholars and to serve as a platform for promoting academic exchange and mutual learning for the youth of China and Australia.
