7 killed in eastern Indonesia's flood, landslide
JAKARTA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The massive flood and landslides that have been occurring in Ambon, the capital city of Maluku province in eastern Indonesia region since Tuesday has killed seven people, an official said here on Wednesday.
Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the casualty number has stepped up from 3 as of Tuesday.
The flood was following torrential downpour in the region that has been occurring since Tuesday, causing heavy flood that inundated houses in the city's neighborhood and landslides. Four of the victims died from landslides, Sutopo said.
The heavy downpour in Indonesia's eastern region was an impact of tropical cyclone of Saola, hitting north Philippines' territory at present, he said. Enditem
