LG Electronics to unveil unibody touchscreen smartphone
SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- South Korean tech behemoth LG Electronics said Sunday that it will unveil a new smartphone with a unibody touchscreen that eliminates the gap between the glass and the LCD panel.
According to an e-mailed statement, LG Electronics planned to roll out the new smartphone codenamed "G" next month, to which a new technology dubbed "G2 Touch Hybrid" is applied.
The technology will eliminate the air space between the cover glass and the touch sensor, reducing the thickness of the unit by around 30 percent compared with other smartphones, LG said.
The South Korean tech firm noted that the unibody touchscreen will enhance the sense of touch by making the user experience his or her fingertip touches the screen without the glass that creates a barrier in between.
The new smartphone will be equipped with a new display named " True HD IPS+" that will be around 1.6 times sharper and cleaner than AMOLED displays thanks to its high pixel density of 320 ppi, according to the statement.
The new display will be capable of generating 470 nits of brightness, while consuming as much as 70 percent less power than AMOLED displays.
"Our next smartphone will be a game changer for us because we were able to incorporate all the best-of-best technologies from our sister companies with one single objective in mind - to give customers the best user experience that we were collectively capable of," said Park Jong-seok, president and chief executive of LG Electronics' mobile communications division.
