Romney receives no bounce from Republican convention
WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney got no traditional bounce from the Republican National Convention last week, according to a Gallup tracking poll released on Tuesday.
The polling agency's figure showed about 46 percent of voters supported Romney rather than President Barack Obama in the period between August 31 and September 3, the four days after the GOP convention, essentially the same as the 47 percent who preferred him in August 24-27 period, the four days preceding the convention held in Tampa, Florida.
The lack of traditional bounce is consistent with Gallup's post- convention reaction poll, which showed the convention had only a minimal impact on Americans' self-reported voting intentions.
The result means Romney still couldn't pull away from Obama, who has about 47 percent of voters' support as September begins. Romney held a consistent two-percent advantage in mid-August, shortly after announcing Paul Ryan as his running mate.
According to Gallup, party conventions typically bump presidential candidates' support numbers up by five percentage points. Receiving essentially no change in poll numbers, Romney joins John Kerry and George McGovern as candidates who did not get a bounce.
The Democrats are holding their national convention in Charlotte, NC, and Obama is to speak on Thursday. Enditem
