South Sudan keen to work with other countries to exploit natural resources: minister

ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan is keen to cooperate and work with other countries on the basis of mutual- benefit towards the exploitation of its natural resources to prosper the newly born nation, said Michael Tongun Martin, the country's Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development.

Attending a Global Forum on Cooperative in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, the minister said South Sudan seeks technical support from African and non-African countries to harness its potentials for the prosperity of the nation.

"We are so blessed with natural resources, we have the mineral, the oil, and abundant agricultural potentials; and what we need is the technical support in terms of training and technology of the century and with that we will be able to utilize our natural resources," the minister told Xinhua.

Regarding cooperation with non-African countries, he stated the country works with super powers and large economies like China in a manner that ensures mutual benefit of the partners.

"With the super powers and large economies of the world like China, we are working on mutual benefit agreement in the area of investment, in infrastructure, natural resource exploitation, and on other socio-economic activities; we work on mutual benefit agreement where no one is taking an advantage; we benefit from their knowledge, from their expertise, and also their finances," he said.

"We have natural resources and what we need is a technical support and training for which we are experiencing a good number of responses; and we will continue seeking support in this area," he said. Enditem
