Global conference on agriculture, food security, climate change opens in Vietnam

HANOI, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The second Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change opened in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Thursday, drawing over 500 delegates from 150 countries and over 20 international organizations.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised the conference's theme, "Hunger for Action ", with its focus on discussing practical issues and defining suitable and effective strategies to develop eco-friendly agriculture as well as promoting sustainable development and green growth.

Agriculture plays an important role and is always seen as a top priority in Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy, said Dung, adding that Vietnam is ready to share experience and boost cooperation with other countries in agriculture and rural development.

Vietnam is forecast to be one of the countries to be hardest hit by climate change, especially sea level rise, which is a big threat to agricultural production. Enditem
