UNGA president slams deadly attack in Somali capital

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The president of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, on Thursday strongly condemned a deadly attack in Mogadishu, the national capital of Somalia, which killed three soldiers and injured two others Wednesday.

The UNGA president "condemns in the strongest possible terms the violent attack on the Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, in which some Somalis and soldiers from the African Union Mission in Somalia,(AMISOM) have been killed," said a statement issued here by Al-Nasser's spokesperson.

"President Al-Nasser expresses his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families and Governments of the victims of this attack," the statement said.

Three soldiers were killed and two others injured on Wednesday after twin suicide bombers hit a hotel in Mogadishu, where the new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud was meeting visiting Kenyan Foreign Minister Samuel Ongeri.

Al-Nasser also emphasized the need to bring those responsible for this attack to justice.

On Wednesday, the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council issued separate statements to strongly condemn the deadly attack in the Somali capital. Enditem
