China's top legislator meets Myanmar president to promote bilateral ties

NAY PYI TAW, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo made three proposals on furthering the country's comprehensive strategic partnership with Myanmar during a meeting with Myanmar President U Thein Sein here Friday.

Firstly, both sides should continue to enhance bilateral strategic mutual trust by firmly supporting each other on issues concerning each other's major interests and jointly safeguarding the overall situation of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress.

Secondly, bilateral economic and trade cooperation should be further strengthened. At present, both sides should focus on pushing forward the agreed major projects, which are helpful for Myanmar to upgrade its national industry and improve its people's living standards.

Wu said China will continue to encourage its credible strength corporations to expand their investment and positively participate in Myanmar's domestic economic construction.

Wu hoped both sides to take effective measures to push forward the implementation of the major cooperation projects such as the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline.

Thirdly, bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges should be further deepened, Wu said.

Calling China Myanmar's real friend, U Thein Sein said his country will strengthen Myanmar's practical cooperation with China in fields such as infrastructure, agriculture and energy.

Wu arrived here on Wednesday for a four-day visit. He is on a four nation tour which will also take him to Sri Lanka and Fiji. He visited Iran earlier. Enditem
