Death toll from U.S. embassy attack in Tunisia rises to 4
TUNIS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from Friday's attack on the U.S. embassy in Tunis rose to 4, the official TAP press agency reported Saturday, quoting a medical source.
Earlier reports said that at least three protesters were killed Friday in clashes in the Tunisian capital, after a massive demonstration outside the U.S. embassy in protest of a U.S.-made anti-Islam movie which insults Prophet Mohammed.
Of the four, three died suffering gunshot wounds, while a fourth got run over by a police vehicle, the report said.
Meanwhile, 46 protesters were reportedly injured. Two of the injured have undergone surgeries, a hospital official said.
At least 64 policemen were also reported to have been injured -- two in critical condition, Radio Express FM said on Saturday.
During the violence on Friday, angry mobs attacked the U.S. diplomatic compound, setting some of the buildings and cars on fire, and ransacked a nearby American school.
The U.S. embassy attack in Tunis came days after the U.S. ambassador to Libya was killed, along with three other consulate staffers in Libya's Benghazi, by unidentified gunmen. Enditem
