KIEV, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Some 195 miners managed to escape unscathed when a fire ripped through a coal mine in eastern Ukraine early Monday, Ukrainian authorities said.
The blaze broke out at 2 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) in Samsonovska coal mine in Lugansk region when 195 miners were working underground. All the miners returned to the surface safely, the Emergencies Ministry said.
Operations at the mine were halted, the ministry said.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Enditem
