Apple pays tribute to late co-founder
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Apple on Friday paid tribute to its late co-founder Steve Jobs with a heartfelt video and a note from Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook.
The company dedicated its landing page of Apple.com website with a minute-long video, showing black and white photos of Jobs along with some of his most notable quotes.
"Steve's passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us," said Cook in the note posted on Apple website.
"I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place," he said.
On Oct. 5, 2011, one day after Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S smartphone, Jobs passed away at the age of 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Since his passing, Apple continued rolling out new products and became the most valuable company in the world.
However, Apple's recent hiccup on its mobile mapping service and an open apology again brought up the old question of "What Steve would do," making people wondering whether Apple has found a way out of the Silicon Valley icon's shadow.
Most analysts and industry watchers said Cook's pragmatism style so far served the company well, noting that he made the company more shareholder-friendly, and successfully retained the best supply chain as well as the best management and design team in the industry.
"I'm incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road," said Cook in the message on Friday.
"It's a wonderful tribute to Steve's memory and everything he stood for," he said. Enditem
