Tropical storm Gaemi leaves one person dead in Philippines

MANILA, October 6 (Xinhua) -- Tropical Storm Gaemi (local name Marce) left one person dead as it is now out of the Philippine area of responsibility, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Dante Sarasa, 59, was found dead along the shore of Wawa village, Nasugbu town in northern province of Batangas on Thursday, NDRRMC said.

According to the agency, Sarasa and two other fishermen went fishing on Wednesday morning aboard two motor bancas, which capsized last Wednesday due to big waves and strong winds brought by the tropical storm.

NDRRMC said that about 66 families or over 300 people continued to be affected by Gaemi in northern provinces of Zambales and Occidental Mindoro. Local government units have been providing food assistance to the families affected by the storm surge, it added. Enditem
