One killed in coal mine blast in Ukraine

A miner was killed in a coal mine explosion in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, authorities said Monday.

The explosion took place 1,078 meters underground at 10:45 p.m. local time Sunday (2045 GMT) after sudden outburst of gas and coal at the Zasyadko mine, the Emergencies Ministry said.

Rescuers recovered the body of the killed miner early Monday and the accident was under investigation.

Some 100 people have been killed in coal mine accidents in Ukraine so far this year. Endi
