McDonald's Corp., headquartered just outside the U.S. city of Chicago, reported on Thursday its first decline in monthly U.S. same store sales in nine years.
Sales at restaurants open more than a year declined 2.2 percent in October. Same store sales also declined in Europe, by 2.2 percent; and in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions, by 2.4 percent, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Lower demand and greater competition were cited for the lower sales.
The sales drop is not unexpected. Analysts have been tempering expectations and downgrading the stock for months.
