Afriqiyah Airways, Libya-based flag carrier has finalized a contract for four more A350-900s from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, to increase its fleet enough to respond to of new routes' demand, the France-based company said Monday.
"Having Afriqiyah come back with this new, incremental order for the A350 XWB is great news and a strong signal that this aircraft is the industry's new benchmark in the long-haul segment," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers.
"We are convinced that the A350's unbeatable economics and superior passenger comfort will be key contributors to Afriqiyah's continued success," he added.
Using 25 percent less fuel and providing an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions, the new aircraft in the order will serve "new routes the carrier will open to destinations in the U.S., the Middle East and Asia,"according to a statement issued by Airbus.
Scheduled for entry-into-service in 2014, with Afriqiyah's newest order included, the A350 XWB has already won 562 firm orders from 34 customers worldwide, it added. Endi
