At least five people had been killed and four severely injured in two road accidents in Ukraine, authorities said Tuesday.
The Emergencies Ministry said the first accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. (1415 GMT) Monday on Kharkov-Simferopol highway in the southern Zaporozhe region, when the driver of a passenger car lost control and collided with another vehicle carrying three people.
Three passengers from the two cars died on the spot, while the drivers were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
In another grisly accident in western Zakarpattya region, a mother and her infant daughter were killed, and two children were injured.
The crash happened at around 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) Monday on a rural highway near Khust city, where an SUV veered into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming car carrying the woman and three children.
The woman's 7-year-old daughter died instantly and the mother died in hospital. The other two children are in intensive care.
According to preliminary reports, the driver of the SUV, who fled the scene of the accident, was drunk.
