The United Nations Trust Fund for the Victims of Human Trafficking has urged support for children on Tuesday, the United Nations Universal Children's Day.
The Trust Fund Board of Trustees said they would "like to call for a targeted and immediate response to the plight of millions of children around the world who are denied their fundamental rights."
The Trustees said many young girls and boys around the world are subjected to human trafficking, often as a result child labor, sexual exploitation and forced engagement in illegal activities.
The Fund was established in 2010 with its goal to provide humanitarian, legal and financial aid to victims of trafficking, the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) stated in a press release.
Through its "Small Grants Facility," the Fund awards multi-year grants of up to 25,000 U.S. dollars a year to grass-roots organizations around the world who aid in protecting children in vulnerable situations.
The Trustees appealed to other UN agencies as well as governments, the private sector, and individuals for assistance. Endi
