Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry expects total trade to grow moderately between 2 and 2.5 percent in 2013 as headwinds in Western economies shrink demand for exports.
Secretary general Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria said on Wednesday the level of growth would not be as usually robust and the ministry would explore other emerging markets for trade activities.
The country's total trade in October grew marginally by 0.6 percent from a year earlier but trade surplus decreased by 33.5 percent to 9.6 billion ringgit.
Total trade for the 10-month period grew 4 percent on year.
In 2011, total trade grew 8.7 percent on year to a record high of 1.27 trillion ringgit. Endi
