China and Myanmar signed two documents here Monday on providing aid for resettlement of homeless people in western Rakhine state and victims in the quake- hit northern Myanmar.
Under the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement, China provides Myanmar with 350 sets of integrated housing worth 30 million renminbi yuan and 1 million U.S. dollars in cash for the resettlement of the victims.
The documents were signed by Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Li Junhua and Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Phone Swe on behalf of respective governments.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Myanmar Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin thanked the Chinese government and people for the deep friendship and generous donation extended to the Myanmar people.
Ambassador Li noted that the Chinese government and people have sincerely extended help for Myanmar's socio-economic development with more than 60 economic and technical aid agreements signed between the two countries covering 9 technical cooperation projects and 27 batches of material aid.
It also provided human resources training to about 2,000 persons covering more than 20 sectors.
Li disclosed that this year China provided Myanmar with such aid as engineering machinery, medical instrument and teaching equipment.
China also equipped Yangon University and Mandalay University with 1,500 computers, he said.
Li stressed that the Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese companies investing in Myanmar to take social responsibility for the well-being of local residents.
According to incomplete statistics, the Chinese companies have provided aid worth 71 million U.S. dollars to Myanmar in education, health and natural disaster mitigation and created jobs for 15,000 people.
Li added that in the future, China will increase support to Myanmar's socio-economic development giving priority to the livelihood of the people. Endi
