Katy Perry was the most popular singer at the 39th People's Choice Awards carrying four top awards while "The Hunger Games" prevailed as the top film which garnered five honors at the event held Wednesday night at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.
Perry, 28, scored as the favorite female artist, pop artist, music video ("Part of Me") and music fan following ("Katycats"), walking triumphantly from the young fans-orientated awards event for the fourth time.
This is the pop singer's 12th win at the event since 2009 when she first won the favorite pop song for "I Kissed a Girl". All told, Perry was nominated for the awards 18 times. The singer and songwriter is the third woman with most wins, lagging behind Ellen DeGeneres who won her 13th tonight as favorite daytime TV host, and actress Julia Roberts who also took 13.
Justin Bieber, who received five nominations in the leadup to the event, lost to Perry for favorite pop artist, favorite music video and favorite music fan following. In the contention for favorite male artist, the 18-year-old singer also lost to Jason Mraz for favorite male artist. He also ceded the favorite album of the year to One Direction's "Up All Night."
"The Hunger Games," a sci-fi adventure film starring Jennifer Lawrence, was recognized with five awards including favorite movie. Lawrence was honored with favorite movie actress, face of heroism and shared on-screen chemistry with co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. The film also won for favorite action movie, one of the top awards handed out during the event.
Actress Sandra Bullock was chosen as the recipient of favorite humanitarian award for her philanthropic efforts, most notably her support of Warren Easton High School in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Robert Downey, Jr. was a multiple winner, being voted as favorite movie actor and movie superhero for his role as Iron Man. A pair of comedians, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, were the winners in the comedy acting categories, while Zac Efron and Emma Watson took home the drama acting honors.
Chris Hemsworth was named favorite action movie star. Meryl Streep won for favorite movie icon.
