Morocco has been in a state of high alert since Sunday as the military action against Islamist rebels in Mali triggered fears of a backlash on the Moroccan soil, local Al-Ahdath Al-Maghribia daily reported Tuesday.
"Authorities have tightened security measures in cities across the country in anticipation of reprisals from extremists after war against terrorist organizations in northern Mali started," the Arabic-language daily said.
On Monday, Moroccan king Mohammed VI made a phone call with French President Francois Hollande over the situation in Mali, the king's cabinet said in a statement.
