Internet search giant Google has won its High Court battle against Australia's competition watchdog over claims of misleading advertising, local media reported on Wednesday.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) claimed that particular sponsored links displayed by the Google search engine between 2005 and 2008 had conveyed misleading and deceptive representations.

The full bench of the Federal Court upheld the ACCC's claim in April 2012 but Google appealed to the High Court.

The High Court on Wednesday said it unanimously allowed the appeal, agreeing with Google's arguments that it did not engage in misleading or deceptive conduct and had not created the sponsored links it published or displayed. Endite
