Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, on Friday declared a force majeure in its Nigerian operations.

In a statement in Eket in southern Nigeria, the company said it was embarking on a repair work on a section of its joint venture pipeline. This is due to the difficulty in meeting projected lifting because of repair work on a section of the joint venture's pipeline, the oil firm said. The statement added that the company was working to minimize down-time and had notified appropriate regulatory agencies.

"We are working to minimize down-time and have notified appropriate regulatory agencies and purchasers," the statement added.

It also said the company regretted any inconveniences the closure could cause its customers, adding that it will continues to produce oil from facilities not covered by the force majeure.

Force majeure is a legal notice that absolves an oil firm of liabilities for failure to meet supply obligations to crude buyers due to circumstances beyond its control. Endi
