Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko on Wednesday offered condolences over the death of Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, saying Belarus "lost its best friend."

"Lie in peace, our friend and brother Hugo Chavez. Your deal will live for ages," said Lukashenko.

He described Chavez as one of "the greatest statesmen and public figures of our time, indomitable hero, a fiery patriot and fighter for independence, an outstanding politician, thinker and speaker, ...whose whole life was fully dedicated to his Motherland. "

Lukashenko said that Chavez passionately loved Belarus and always stretched out a helping hand.

He also ordered Belarussian flags to be flown at half-mast at the Presidential Palace and other government buildings across the country for three days. All TV and radio channels have been recommended not to broadcast entertainment programs. Endi
