Canadian police announced Monday they had recaptured two prisoners who escaped Sunday from a Quebec jail in a helicopter.

Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau, 36, and Danny Provencal, 33, were captured together with two other suspects after a manhunt.

The arrests took place in Chertsey, Quebec, located about 50 km north of the jail in Saint-Jerome from where the inmates made their James Bond-style escape, and was peaceful, a provincial police spokesman said without giving more details.

The prison break took place at around 2:30 p.m. (0630 GMT) when a helicopter hovered over the building and the escapees climbed on board with the help of a rope ladder, reports said.

The Saint-Jerome detention center, located some 60 km northwest of Montreal, Canada's second largest city, experienced a mini-riot by about a dozen prisoners a little over a month ago.

In that incident, police secured the outside of the prison, which holds about 480 inmates, and facility staff used pepper spray to disperse the mob. Endi
