General Motors is recalling about 28,000 model year 2013 Cadillac SRX crossovers and Buick LaCross sedans in North America to fix a software program that could allow the vehicles to slip from manual to automatic mode unexpectedly.

Detroit News Wednesday quoted information posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website as saying that the problem may cause the transmission to shift to sport mode suddenly, removing any transmission-related engine braking effect.

The company has not received any complaints about the problem, nor reports of crashes or injuries related to the condition.

GM discovered the problem in January as it was working on the 2014 Cadillac SRX engineering development vehicle.

Separately, GM is also recalling 48 2011 model compressed natural gas versions of the Chevrolet Express full-sized vans as an improperly built pressure release vent pipe could allow natural gas to vent into the passenger compartment, increasing the risks of an explosion or fire.

GM learned of the problem in December after an incident involving a pressure relief device. There are no reports of crashes, injuries or fires associated with the problem thus far. Enditem
