At least one person was shot dead and ten others were injured here on Thursday in violent clashes between security forces and demonstrators supporting the Guinean opposition.
Opposition parties accused the government of calling a parliamentary election without agreeing to opposition terms. They organized a massive rally by tens of thousands of protestors demanding an open, transparent and fair parliamentary election.
Security forces fired tear gas and warning shots after young protestors stoned the headquarters of the Guinean ruling party.
The Guinean government expressed regret over the violence late Thursday and sent condolences to the families of the victims.
The authorities said it would request an international enquiry to determine who had fired the shots during the demonstration.
After the 2010 presidential election, Guinea's ruling and opposition parties have serious rifts over the parliamentary election, which has been postponed four times.
