A suspected Taliban insurgent opened fire and killed five policemen in Kunduz Province 250 km north of Kabul on Friday, a local official said.
The man took a gun and opened fire at a checkpoint of local police in Sharawan area of Dasht-e-Archi early Friday when the policemen were asleep, the district police chief Hamid Agha told Xinhua.
He disguised himself as a guest came to the checkpoint on Thursday night and had dinner with the policemen who slept inside, said Agha.
He killed five on the spot and made his good escape, Agha added.
Without pointing finger at any groups or individuals, the official said investigation is underway to identify and arrest those behind the bloody attack.
Meantime, Taliban purported spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed of responsibility in talks with media via telephone from unknown location, saying Taliban fighters seized police arms and ammunitions after killing five policemen. Endi
