Thousands protest against austerity, other policies in Croatia

Thousands of people held a protest rally in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, on Wednesday to protest against the government policies, calling for "change course". One protester was arrested.

The protesters, carrying banners and slogans, marched along the city's main street Llica and arrived at the central square where they started a protest rally against government policies.

The representatives from trade unions, unemployed and youth demanded current government to change its economic policies, an end to the austerity, job creation and improvement of living level.

Union leaders also warned the government that it was its last chance to change its policies or it should start considering an early election after July 1, when Croatia is set to join the European Union.

Apart from Zagreb, protests also occurred in other Croatian cities on the day.

The protests are believed to be a presentation of Croatians'disappointment over the country's situation as well as their concern over future.

"We hope a better Croatia. Young don't need to go abroad for job " a girl protestor said, referring to few job opportunity.

According to official statistic, Croatia's unemployment rate stands over 21.6 percent in March this year. Endi
