As the Russian city of St. Petersburg gears up for its famous White Nights Festival in June, the city's Mariinsky Theatre is preparing to broadcast its famed production of Swan Lake to over 50 countries around the world in 3D.
3D cameras will record the June 6 show, creating special challenges for director Ross MacGibbon and dancers alike, with multiple cameras capturing the action close-up and from a variety of angles.
The project is being coordinated by British company Glass Slipper Live Events, famed for their work with Michael Jackson.
Mariinsky Theatre Director Valery Gergiev summed up the goal of the project: "Fans should be able to experience the show, even if they cannot make it to St. Petersburg or wherever the troupe is touring." Endi
