Cuba's XII International Summer Circus Festival (Circuba) kicked off Tuesday in Havana with 80 artists from 14 countries and regions.
China's Fuyong Acrobatics Art Troupe from the city of Shenzhen is one of the festival's highlights, winning the Grand Prize in the past two editions (2011 and 2012) with its outstanding skill, speed and precision.
Circuba, considered the most important event of its kind in Latin America, will see the various troupes compete over a five- day period starting Wednesday.
From July 24 to 28, the troupes will travel to the central province of Ciego de Avila, 429 km east of Havana, where the awards and closing ceremonies will take place.
Cuba's annual circus festival, which got its start in 1981, will this year also include the VI International Erdwin Fernandez Memorial Clown Contest, as well as a workshop on the art of clowning by Yves Sheriff, casting director of the world-famous Cirque du Soleil.
Circuba 2012 drew performers, including acrobats, contortionists and other artists, from 16 countries and regions. Endi
