Zimbabwe's 89-year-old veteran president Robert Mugabe on Tuesday said his chances of winning the upcoming presidential election are as good as in 1980 when the country won its independence from Britain.
Responding to Xinhua's question at a press conference, Mugabe said he is confident of gaining overwhelming support from the electorate in the polls that will open on Wednesday.
Mugabe, who won six elections since 1980, will face again his long-time rival Morgan Tsvangirai, who won more votes in the first round of voting in 2008 elections but lost to Mugabe in the disputed second round. The two men have since been forced into a coalition government.
Mugabe said that he did not see the results of the last elections will be repeated this time. Endi
