Popular U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will host the 2014 Academy Awards telecast, the second time since she did so in 2007, it was announced Friday.
"We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars," producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a prepared statement. "As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars."
DeGeneres received generally good reviews from the producers and audiences for her first sting hosting the 79th Academy Award telecast. She also earned a nomination for Primetime Emmy in honor of her hosting gig.
"I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time," she said in a statement. "You know what they say -- the third time 's the charm."
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had an unpleasant time when "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, host of this year's award show, received mixed feedback from those in Hollywood and the general public for his sometimes raw and bawdy humor.
His selection was widely regarded as an attempt by the Academy to bring younger viewers back to the show, which like other awards events has been losing viewers in recent years.
The 86th Academy Awards ceremony takes place on March 2 at the Dolby Theater at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and will be telecast live on ABC. Endi
