Premier league clubs in Ghana have intensified pre-season preparations ahead of the upcoming league which begins on September 15.

Three newly promoted sides - Bechem FC, Inter Allies, and Hasaacas - will join the top flight after sealing qualification for the 16-team competition.

Champions Asante Kotoko will start its title defense of the Premier League at home when the new season gets underway.

The premier league board this week announced fixtures for the 2013/2014 season.

The traditional rivalry that pundits will be looking up to is the clash between arch rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, which has been fixed for September 22, 2013. The Porcupine Warriors (Kotoko) travel to Accra to face the Phobians (Hearts) at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The first round of the league campaign would be brought to an end on December 8, 2013, when the match-day 15 round of games are played.

The Ghana soccer league was formed in 1956 and enjoys massive popularity and followership in Ghana. The league has been dominated by Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak over the years.

In December 2008, Glo Mobile Ghana contracted a five-year sponsorship deal with the Ghana Premier League until the end of the 2013/14 season.

The Glo Premier League became the official name of the top professional football division of the football league system in Ghana.

It is however not clear whether the telecom company will extend its contractual agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) when it expires after several complaints from club owners of the company's inability to honor sponsorship payments. Endi
