Uganda's lady woodball star Lillian Zawedde will compete at the 13th Singapore Lion City Cup Woodball event on August 17-18 and she left Kampala on Thursday.

"She will also travel for the 17th Malaysia Open Woodball Championship on Aug. 22-27," said Namayo Mawerere, spokesperson of the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF).

Mawerere told Xinhua in an interview that they are happy that they managed to send a competitive player whom they are sure will perform well against the world's best.

The prized Singapore event is slated to take place at the Clementi Woods Park International Woodball course. The top 30 men and ladies finishers in the single competition will also earn rankings.

Mawerere said they have also assigned Zawedde to make presentations at the two foreign competitions to highlight UWbF's progress in preparing for the forthcoming 3rd Uganda International Open Championship due Oct. 9 - 14 at the Kisubi Beach, Entebbe.

The move is hoped to raise interest and lobby for more participants in the Uganda Open.

In Malaysia, Lillian will be joined by another Ugandan player Wabuyu Jerry who failed to secure an air ticket in time for the Singapore competition.

The two Ugandan players will use the international competitions as a build up for the Uganda Open and Zawedde in particular to improve on the third place finish at the recent Hong Kong International Open. Endi
