Vietnam's Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August increased by 0.83 percent over July and 7.5 percent over the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on Saturday.
The figures made the CPI to rise by 3.53 percent over the level of last December and drove the 8-month CPI to increase by 6.9 percent year-on-year, said the office.
Except for postal services and telecommunication sector, other 10 out of the 11 goods categories saw price rises between 0.22 percent and 4.11 percent, with medicine and healthcare posted the highest hike.
The petrol price adjustments in June and July had resulted in a 0.08 percent increase in the CPI.
The price hike in food and foodstuff were attributed to the heavy rains and rainstorms nationwide.
Although not calculated in the CPI, the U.S. dollar rose by 0. 06 percent while gold prices saw an increase of 0.32 percent over July, said the GSO.
The country's two major economic hubs, capital Hanoi and southern Ho Chi Minh City, posted a CPI increase of 3.16 percent and 0.36 percent, respectively. Endi
