Britain's primary fuels production dropped 9.3 percent in the second quarter due to maintenance activity on a number of oil and gas fields, said the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on Thursday.
The DECC figures showed that total production of primary fuels in the three months to June stood at 28.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent, 9.3 percent lower than the corresponding period a year ago.
According to the DECC, the country's production of coal and other solid fuels fell by 14.5 percent in the second quarter compared with the same period of last year.
Production of petroleum fell by 13.1 percent, natural gas fell by 2.4 percent, electricity produced from nuclear sources fell by 16.5 percent, and electricity produced from wind and natural flow hydro rose by 49.5 percent, the figures also showed.
"The falls in both petroleum and gas production are due to the general decline, and planned and unplanned maintenance activity, on a number of fields in the UK Continental Shelf," the DECC said.
Total consumption of primary fuels in the country was 46.7 million tonnes of oil equivalent during the three months to June, 2.4 percent lower than the same period a year ago. Endi
