A collection of paintings, photographs and a sculpture and a tapestry inspired by supermodel Kate Moss are to be auctioned on Sept. 25, said art dealer Christie's on Wednesday.
Moss appeared in silver suit, posing with the art works in front of photographers.
"She was supportive and thrilled to see there works coming together and up for sale," said Philippe Garner, director of photographs from Christie's, who noted that this is the first time they have an auction devoted to a modern icon.
A total of 58 lots are to be sold, which were owned by German collector Gert Elfering.
"I am pleased to be working with Christie's once again, on this occasion to celebrate the living icon Kate Moss," said Elfering.
"Kate is the ultimate modern muse and we will be seeing her images in major museums and private collections for years to come," he said. "She has altered perceptions for women across the globe, encouraging them towards greater individuality and expressive freedom."
According to Garner, they had an auction with subjects from Elfering three years ago, and the latter enjoyed the process and decided to work with Christie's again.
"Kate Moss has one of the most inspirational faces of the time, depicted by countless artists," he said.
"Gert recognized the appetite of today's collectors for photographs that confound traditional norms," said Garner. "So he has worked with the artists involved to create unique or very limited edition printings in a range of scales that, in certain cases, reach dramatic mural proportions."
"He was also keen to include works in other media, reminding us that photography, while central to our image culture, should, in the hands of its great practitioners, be measured and appreciated among the arts in all media."
Eight photos on display for press preview showed the evolvement of Moss over the years, with a black-and-white photo taken by Mario Sorrenti in 1993. On the photo the half-naked model stared at the camera with innocence. The photo was estimated by fetch 8,000 to 12,000 pounds (12,500 to 18,750 U. S. dollars).
Another shot of Moss encased in bronze glitter by Allen Jones, named Body Armour, was believed to be sold at 20,000 to 30,000 pounds. Jones has also got a painting and a sculpture up for sale.
One of the most expensive one was a chromogenic lenticular image of Moss in the water, which is worth 100,000 to 150,000 pounds. (1 U.S. dollar = 0.64 pound) Endi
