Vietnam welcomes the Russian proposal of placing Syria's chemical weapons under international supervision, the country's foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Answering questions on Vietnam's view of the Russian proposal, Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi said Vietnam welcomes Russia's proposal and the efforts of the related sides, considering it a positive step that helps ease the current tense situation in Syria.
"We called upon relevant sides to support and actively realize the initiatives to settle Syria-related issues in a peaceful manner so that peace and stability will soon be brought back to the people of Syria," Nghi said.
Russia made the proposal earlier this week, asking Syria to " put its chemical arms stockpiles under international control for eventual destruction." The plan was met with positive response from the Syrian government. Endi
