UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday to discuss the Syrian crisis, and they agreed on the importance of continued UN engagement on Syria's chemical weapons and a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Ban and Obama "discussed the situation in Syria, and agreed on the importance of continued UN engagement on the issue of Syrian chemical weapons, as well as the importance of a political solution and the need to avoid further loss of life," UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters here.
The meeting came on the sidelines of the ongoing annual high- level debate of the UN General Assembly, which opened here Tuesday morning.
They also "discussed relations between the United States and Iran, and the importance of progress on the nuclear file," Nesirky said.
In addition, they discussed ongoing efforts in support of Somalia, Mali, Congo, Human Rights and UN reform, the spokesman added. Endi
